The Blues came into this match trailing on aggregate. However, their away goal was of utmost importance which was felt when Fran Kirby put the Blues 1-0 up.

Emma Hayes’ side were now leading on aggregate via away goals, but it wasn’t for long. Bayern’s Sarah Zadrazil put the German side in the driving seat with a smashing 29th-minute equalizer.

But Chelsea Women did not get intimidated and instead, took the game to the Frauen-Bundesliga leaders. Ji So-yun scored for Chelsea to level things up in the tie before UEFA Player of the Year, Pernille Harder, scored the third on the night.

A memorable European night

Bayern were now pressing for the winner which left them open at the back. And with the full time whistle not far away, Kirby scored in an empty net to secure an amazing semi-final brace.

This is the first time that Chelsea Women have made the UEFA Champions League final, after Hayes’ side lost to Wolfsburg and Lyon in the 2018 and 2019 semi-finals respectively. This is also the first time since 2007 that an English side has reached a women’s European final since Arsenal in 2007.
