According to transfer news from Express, Chelsea could save themselves a fortune by opting to sign Patson Daka.
The RedBull Salzburg striker has been linked with quite a few clubs including Chelsea and could be a very cost-effective alternative to the much-coveted Erling Haaland. The news outlet has valued the player at a modest £17m.
Daka began his journey with Nchanga Rangers in his homeland before joining Kafue Celtic. He then spent half a season on loan with Liefering before joining RB Salzburg in the summer of 2017.
Though he initially struggled in the club’s senior set-up, he was a part of the side which won the league in 2017/18 and the following campaign. Last season, he led the team to the league title with 31 goals and also helped Salzburg lift the Austrian Cup title.
He has been very prolific this season as well, with 23 goals and 5 assists in just 19 games.
The 22-year-old earlier spoke about how he wishes to emulate the likes of fellow African forwards Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang playing in the Premier League.
Chelsea’s pursuit of Erling Haaland is no secret but given the demand, he is in, it’s no surprise to see him being valued at around £127.5million. The club do need an established striker to solve their issues up top.
A move for Daka could be smart from Chelsea given his price tag of £17m. They could save themselves a gargantuan amount of money in doing so.
