According to transfer news from Express, Chelsea signing Adrien Rabiot could put a spanner in the works for rivals Manchester United.
The Blues have been linked with the Juventus midfielder but their involvement would mean that United’s talks about a potential swap deal involving Donny van de Beek and Rabiot could be broken.
Juventus are in talks with United over this high-profile swap deal with both players unsettled at their current clubs. Both clubs are ready to let their players go and they are keen on the other player. However, Chelsea’s interest in Rabiot could derail things for Manchester United.
Rabiot was at PSG when Tuchel was at the helm. The German gaffer froze the midfielder out of his squad in the second half of the 2018/19 season due to him not renewing his contract. He later admitted in February 2019 that this decision was made over his head.
While Chelsea have decent names in midfield to call upon, a sort of refresh next summer could be needed. Rabiot may not be performing at optimum levels but he is still a regular under Andrea Pirlo. It’s just that the club are looking to sell some players and bring in some new options.
With Chelsea’s interest in the player, they could deliver a blow to United, who are keen to offload Van de Beek and sign Rabiot. Tuchel could try to use his prior connections with PSG to facilitate the deal and get it over the line.
