According to Evening Standard, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was quick to deflect any questions asked about the European Super League (ESL). He pointed out that he was not the right man to answer those questions and pointed interviewers towards the club hierarchy.
Chelsea are one of the 12 clubs who have proposed to form a breakaway ‘European Super League’. Fans were quick on their feet to oppose this and express their angst at this new ESL. There is also talks of a possible protest outside Stamford Bridge ahead of the Brighton game.
With answers being demanded of the club hierarchy and none to be found, ultimately it fell to Thomas Tuchel who was asked about his opinion on this proposed ESL. However, one can’t blame Tuchel for deflecting those questions given that he isn’t really supposed to be involved in the boardroom discussions and that he is only there to coach.
“I can understand that you want more response from Chelsea. It must be clear that I am not the guy to clear these questions. I am not the guy, I am the coach. I am not a part of the board. I was not involved in these decisions, all the thoughts and all the work that was put in or not put ing, whatever. I do not know the details of all this. I can understand that you need more and want more answers to get a bigger picture. I am clearly not the guy, I am here to coach the team.”
It has been reported that not a single member of the Chelsea hierarchy was found to answer the questions regarding them leaving Tuchel in the firing line. Similar things have happened to other clubs, with managers seemingly facing these uncomfortable questions regarding the ESL.
