According to transfer news from Daily Mail, Chelsea could yet pull off a free transfer for Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Blues are said to be in the hunt for the AC Milan star as new contract talks have stalled between the player and club.
Donnarumma is yet to agree on a contract extension, with his current deal set to expire at the end of this season. It could be the case that he eventually signs a new contract but the fact that it has dragged on for this long with just a few months left means that sides like Chelsea still have some chance to snap him up.
Chelsea could look to sign the keeper despite needing players in other positions such as central defence and centre-forward. Another big question would be the future of Kepa Arrizabalaga if Donnarumma arrives. The Spaniard has been a flop at the club and is the second choice currently.
The Blues have thrown money on keepers in the last few seasons, with Edouard Mendy arriving last summer. The report claims that the Italian international is not agreeing to a new offer of £133,000-a-week and that is putting Milan in a spot.
Donnarumma is passing up on AC Milan’s contract offer and is very likely to exit the club if that figure isn’t bumped up. With his current deal ending in over a year, Milan will have to come to a decision soon.
Chelsea might still have a chance at landing the 22-year-old keeper, with contract talks being delayed to this point.
