According to transfer news from Express, Borussia Dortmund are confident of keeping Erling Haaland next season amidst interest from Chelsea. The German club intend to keep him even if they miss out on the Champions League next season.
Dortmund aren’t enjoying the best of seasons as they struggle to get into the top-four in the Bundesliga. They are still four points off fourth place but they do have 4 games in hand. However, missing out on the Champions League might have bigger complications.
Without Europe’s top club competition, there will be less money for the club in an already financially crunch situation. That would in turn result in player sales to generate funds. Haaland could be the biggest transfer saga in the summer given how he has performed over the last two seasons.
However, Dortmund Sporting Director Michael Zorc assured that Haaland will stay at the club even if the club miss out on the Champions League next season.
“We have made our position clear on the Haaland case. The decision will not be made without Borussia Dortmund. No matter where we end up, Erling will continue to play for us.”
It is still unclear as to how Chelsea plan to go after the Norwegian given all these obstacles. Dortmund might even give in if there is a substantial offer on the table but so far, they have refused to let him go. Chelsea need a striker and for Haaland, they might just have to push through a bit harder.
