Speaking in an interview (h/t Sky Sports), Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, stated that he does not expect Chelsea transfer target, Sergio Aguero, to join his club.
The Argentine striker has been linked with a number of clubs in the Premier League itself. He is set to leave City after 10 years at the club and will be a free agent in the summer.
The 32-year-old striker has been a regular fixture in City’s line-up ever since he joined them from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011.
But his playing time has significantly reduced this season due to injuries and inconsistency as he has managed just 9 league appearances so far.
And it is no surprise that clubs are hovering around the Premier League icon. But Solskjaer has effectively ruled out signing Aguero and even questioned the player’s loyalty if he ever makes that switch.
“…if a rival club would try to sign me and I’d gone to a rival club, where’s the loyalty? Of course, loyalty is one of the values I rank highly. So I wouldn’t expect any player who had played for a club for 10 years to want to go to a local rival.”
This is an added boost for Chelsea, who are linked with a move for the striker. Solskjaer’s interview follows Mikel Arteta’s comments which ruled out the Gunners signing the Argentine. (h/t Sky Sports)
As good as Aguero has been, injuries seem to have take a toll on him. Olivier Giroud will be 35 when this year ends and his Chelsea future is anyway perpetually up in the air.
But still, investing in a striker who is a bit younger and can give his best years at Stamford Bridge would be a smarter move from Thomas Tuchel.
