Hope for Chelsea as La Liga superstar refuses to rule out Premier League move

Transfer News: Chelsea receive boost as Jan Oblak refuses to rule out move

According to transfer news from Express, Chelsea still have a chance to sign Jan Oblak as he has refused to rule out a move to the Premier League. The Atletico Madrid shot-stopper has been linked to Chelsea and Manchester United in recent years but refused to shut the doors on a move.

The Blues were after a No.1 in 2018 after the departure of Thibaut Courtois and signed Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao. Kepa has become a glorified second-choice after his string of poor, error-strewn performances for the club in the last two seasons.

To correct those issues, Chelsea again spent some more on another goalkeeper, this time Edouard Mendy. The Senegalese have proved to be a safe pair of hands in goal with the defence looking much more settled and assured. In the meanwhile, Kepa has been given sporadic chances to prove himself.

Despite the fact that Mendy has proved to be a reliable customer in goal, Chelsea have still been linked with Oblak. It has been said that his top-level performance for Atleti is the reason why he is being courted by so many clubs. Oblak recently spoke about the Premier League but refused to rule out a move.

“The Premier League has strong teams. Maybe the strongest. But I think in the end it is what the coach is asking of you. You listen to his instructions. You are one of the 11, so you do what he asks of you. All the players on the pitch are thinking like that. It doesn’t matter if it’s the Premier League, Italian league, Spanish league, wherever you go you need to do what the coach is asking you to do.”

This could just give Chelsea some hope in securing the player who they have been after for a while now. However, there will be his mammoth £104million release clause that they will need to pay as Atleti are not going to let go of him so easily.

Oblak has set the standard for elite level keepers in Europe and is arguably the best in the business right now. While Mendy has done well so far, it’s a tall comparison when competing against a keeper of Oblak’s calibre. In case Chelsea get a chance to nab the Slovenian, they should go all out for him.
