“I am my own player” – Chelsea star shrugs off Eden Hazard comparisons

Chelsea star Christian Pulisic shrugs off Eden Hazard comparisons

According to Express, Christian Pulisic insists Chelsea are fine without Eden Hazard and shrugged off any comparisons with the latter. The USA international joined the club in 2019, just as Hazard was set to move to Real Madrid.

It has been a mixed time for Chelsea ever since Hazard left the club in 2019. The club haven’t won a trophy since then but are in contention to win two this season. There have been two different managers since, with Lampard taking charge soon after his departure and Thomas Tuchel replacing him this year.

Christian Pulisic joined the club amid much fan-fare but it was not until the latter stages that he started performing. Even this season, Pulisic has blown hot and cold but is slowly getting into the rhythm as the business end approaches.

It was hard not to see Pulisic as the obvious replacement for Hazard. After all, both players operate in similar positions and are alike in the way they play. Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s semifinal tie against Real Madrid, the American insisted that Chelsea are doing fine without Hazard and that he is trying to become his own player.

“He was an incredible player at this football club of course. I definitely looked up to [him]. I am not comparing myself to him in any way or trying to be like him. I am my own player, doing my best for this club. Obviously he was a massive player for this club and obviously it is an honour to hear comparisons like that, but I still have a way to go.”
