Boost for Tuchel as European giants are not ready to make no special efforts to keep Chelsea target

Transfer News: Chelsea receive Raphael Varane transfer boost as new Real Madrid contract not close

According to Spanish outlet AS (h/t The Sun), Real Madrid have not made any special efforts to tie down Chelsea transfer target Raphael Varane to a new contract and the defender is set to leave in the summer transfer window.

He has been planning his departure ‘for months’, with Chelsea and Manchester United the two Premier League clubs interested him. But he also has interest from France in the form of Paris Saint-Germain.

The French centre-back will be in the final year of his contract at Madrid at the end of this season. And Los Galacticos want to cash in on him now rather than risk losing the defender on a free later on.

Varane has a market value of around £61million. And Madrid believe that this money can also help them deal with the financial effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

A massive signing in the making

Speaking about his future at Real Madrid amidst interest from other clubs, Varane supposedly gave his suitors a boost by saying that his focus only lies on the last few weeks of the Spanish side’s current campaign.

“I am focused on giving everything in this season finale.”

The former Lens man is 28 years old and arguably at the peak of his career. The report adds that Madrid have already bolstered their defence by signing David Alaba on a free transfer from Bayern Munich.

And that the 13-time UEFA Champions League winners’ main interest lies in securing a deal for PSG forward, Kylian Mbappe, with the club being told that he could cost around £102million.

Thiago Silva’s time may be up in the summer and the Blues already play a 3-man backline with Thomas Tuchel. So depth and quality in defence seem necessary and Varane is one defender that can fit in seamlessly.
