Chelsea star Werner fires Champions League warning ahead of crucial Real Madrid clash

Timo Werner fires Champions League warning ahead of Chelsea vs Real Madrid

Chelsea star Timo Werner has fired a word of warning to Real Madrid ahead of their Champions League tie (h/t Express). The striker claimed that he had unfinished business in the competition after last year and wants to prove a point.

Last season when Timo Werner was at RB Leipzig, the German side went all the way to the semi-finals in the Champions League. However, Werner did not play beyond the round of 16, after which football was suspended due to the pandemic. He opted to join Chelsea early in June, thereby missing Leipzig’s run to the last four.

Werner drew some criticism due to that and wants to go the distance with Chelsea this season. The Blues are all set to face Real Madrid on Tuesday night as they play out the first leg. The German striker looked to be full of confidence after scoring a goal against West Ham in the last game.

He has fired a warning to all his detractors and is bent on proving them that he can help his side.

“Last year I dropped out in the quarter finals because of the move. I had a lot of criticism for that in Germany because it is not often you are in the quarter finals of the Champions League. But now I have reached it again, one year later, with my new club. I can show everybody I can do it not only with one team but with two, two years in a row. It makes me proud – and more hungry to make it this year to the final. And maybe to win.”
