Transfer News: Chelsea receive Gianluigi Donnarumma boost ahead of summer window

A report by Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t Mirror) mentions that Chelsea transfer target Gianluigi Donnarumma is all set to leave AC Milan in the summer.

The Italian stopper is in the final few weeks of his current Milan contract and it seems that a new deal is not agreed upon between him and the club.

Chelsea, of course, have two good goalkeepers in Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy. The Senegalese international is the Blues’ No. 1 and has played an important role in the club’s solid defensive record ever since Thomas Tuchel joined. But his knack for mistakes means that the Blues are still on the lookout for a new number one. (h/t Mirror)

The news of Donnarumma set to depart the Serie A giants comes as a boost for the Blues. The Italian international has already established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

A no-brainer

And the fact that he has done it at such an early age is even more impressive. It also means that he is still not a finished product. After all, the Italian stopper is just 22 years old and has 245 appearances so far for Il Rossoneri. He has also been capped 25 times for the senior Italy side. (h/t transfermarkt)

That really is a brilliant C.V. for a youngster, and the news that he is available as a free agent in the summer should really interest the Blues. PSG were also a team linked with him, but the club distanced themselves from the links earlier this month.

Considering Chelsea spent £72m for Kepa and £22million for Mendy, Donnarumma would be a really low-risk investment considering a transfer fee would not be required.

But it remains to be seen if Tuchel continues to trust his 29-year-old goalkeeper or dips into the transfer market for one of the most elite goalkeepers in the world.
