Alan Shearer thinks Conor Gallagher can break into Chelsea first-team
According to Football.london, Alan Shearer feels that on-loan Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher can break into the first team. The Premier League legend believes that Gallagher will provide Thomas Tuchel with some headache next season as he is a prime candidate to push his way into the first-team.
The midfielder is currently on loan at newly-promoted side West Brom for the season and will return once that is over. Gallagher joined Chelsea’s academy as an 8-year-old and went on to progress through the youth teams, ultimately signing his first professional contract in 2018. Since then, he has gone out on loan to Charlton and Swansea, where he impressed.
Even this season, Gallagher was allowed to leave on loan as newly-promoted West Brom came for him. Despite the doom and gloom surrounding the Baggies, Gallagher has been one of their best players this season. The Englishman has featured in 24 of 31 league games for them, scoring and assisting twice.
The former Newcastle and Blackburn legend feels that Gallagher has what it takes to force his way into the Chelsea first-team next season.
“The next player under our microscope is Conor Gallager. This young man has caught the eye with a number of performances for struggling West Brom. An exciting midfield prospect, Gallagher is West Brom’s leading ball winner, and he even has a decent cross on him.
I think the young man is having a positive season at West Brom, but if he can do that week in week out is another matter, but he will certainly give Thomas Tuchel a headache in the summer.”
It’s not every day that you see Shearer shower praises on players. That should give you an idea of what Gallagher is capable of. Gallagher is a quality player but there could also be a chance that he might warm the benches on his return. Billy Gilmour has suffered this season when he was not allowed to leave on loan.

The club already have a good batch of central players like Kovacic, Kante and Jorginho already. The on-loan youngster does look a better player but sitting on the benches could stunt his career growth, something Chelsea have to handle very carefully.
