Thomas Tuchel singles out two Chelsea stars for praise after FA Cup semi-final victory

Thomas Tuchel praises Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech after FA Cup win vs Manchester City

Speaking to BBC (h/t Metro) after the win against Manchester City in the FA Cup, Thomas Tuchel praised Chelsea duo Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, especially for their role in their match-winning goal.

The Blues took on City in a highly-anticipated FA Cup semi-final on Saturday. Pep Guardiola raised a lot of eyebrows when he named 8 changes to his side that beat Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League last week. (h/t Manchester City website)

Chelsea dominated proceedings and were the better side as they came out 1-0 victors. The two teams went into half-time at 0-0 but it took Tuchel’s men just 10 minutes in the second half to break the deadlock.

A wonderful pass from Mason Mount found German striker Timo Werner, who then squared it off to Hakim Ziyech. The Moroccan wide-man had no problem tapping the ball into an empty net and make it 1-0.

Chance for silverware

And speaking about that goal, the former PSG manager lauded the duo and praised Mount’s pass to set it up. The win ensured a place in the FA Cup final this year for Chelsea.

“The two guys [Ziyech and Werner] were very, very good upfront with the speed and acceleration – and the impact that Mason [had] with the pass. Timo and Hakim, it was the same lineup like against Liverpool where they were also very, very strong in an away game in a 1-0 victory.”
