Chelsea learn massive wage demands of soon-to-be free agent PL star amid transfer links

Transfer News: Sergio Aguero after big wage packet as Chelsea links continue

A report by Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Express) mentions that Chelsea transfer target and Manchester City striker, Sergio Aguero, wants a bumper wage package ahead of a summer move.

The Argentine striker is a legend at Manchester City. And he will be departing as a free agent in the summer after 10 years at the club.

The 32-year-old has, of course, courted interest from a lot of top clubs, and Chelsea are one of them. But it is now said that the former Atletico Madrid man wants a £10m-a-year salary package.

Thomas Tuchel was earlier asked about the club’s links to Aguero. But he batted away the question as a way of paying respect to Manchester City and said the situation is the ‘same’ as with Erling Haaland.

“You can ask but it’s the same answer as Haaland. We have full respect for Manchester City and Sergio Aguero, who is a big player for them.”

Pep Guardiola, City manager, has given the Argentine international his blessings even if he decides to move to a Premier League club next season.

Sergio Aguero will leave Manchester City at the end of the season.

“We’ll be delighted with the decision he [Aguero] takes, the best for him and his family and his career My preference is his preference. His preference is my preference. The best for him is the best for us.”

Tammy Abraham was left out of the matchday squad against Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday. Olivier Giroud is not getting any younger, and Kai Havertz is being used as a centre-forward.

In such a situation, a goal-scoring talisman such as Aguero would make a lot of sense, at least in the short term. He has 257 career goals at Manchester City and his pedigree is not in doubt. It just remains to be seen if the Blues actually formalize their interest in him in the summer transfer window.
