Chelsea players ‘shocked’ by Thomas Tuchel’s decision to bench this star in FA Cup triumph

Chelsea dressing left ‘shocked’ by Thomas Tuchel’s call to leave Tammy Abraham out of FA Cup win

Tammy Abraham did not feature in the FA Cup match against Manchester City on Saturday and a report by The Telegraph (h/t Mirror) says that the decision to leave him out ‘shocked’ some of his Chelsea teammates.

The Blues took on Manchester City in a blockbuster semi-final at Wembley. But even before the game started, Thomas Tuchel raised eyebrows with his team selection.

Tammy Abraham was completely left out of the matchday squad. The German manager had the luxury of naming 9 players on his bench, but the 23-year-old still did not have a place on it.

No Chelsea player has more goals in the FA Cup this season than the Englishman. He has played in 3 matches and scored 4 times, including a hat-trick against Luton Town. (h/t Mirror)

No room for Tammy

But this time, he was fit, and the decision to leave him out casts a shadow of uncertainty over his Chelsea future. And before the match, Tuchel went on to explain why the striker did not find a place in the team for the grand occasion.

“There isn’t much on Tammy but he’s lost a little bit of confidence recently and we’ve taken the hard decision to leave him out today. It was a tough decision but we decided to go with Timo, and with Kai and Oli Giroud from the bench. We have other injured players missing today, which would mean even more hard decisions.”

Abraham would now feel that he is 4th in the Chelsea pecking order behind Timo Werner, Olivier Giroud, and Kai Havertz. Moreover, the last sentence in the aforementioned quote is also a cause for worry.

While Tuchel says that leaving Tammy out was a hard decision, he goes on to imply that it could get even tougher for the striker to force his way into the matchday squads once more players are fit.
