Chelsea star axed from FA Cup squad to face Man City as uncertain future looms

Chelsea vs Manchester City: Tammy Abraham axed from the squad

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham will not be a part of the matchday squad against Manchester City later today, casting uncertain clouds over his future.

Chelsea are set to take on Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final at the Wembley Stadium in a few hours. And, as per the report, the Blues will do so without the services of striker Abraham.

The 23-year-old came through the youth ranks at the club and after successful loan stints away at Bristol City, Swansea City and Aston Villa, became a first-team regular at the Bridge last term.

Tammy Abraham thinks Chelsea signings are underperforming due to lack of time in the training ground together.

However, Abraham has fallen down the pecking order of things this term behind the likes of Timo Werner, Olivier Giroud and even Kai Havertz, whom new manager Thomas Tuchel has deployed as a centre-forward in recent games.

As a result, Abraham has struggled for game time in the Chelsea first-team under the German tactician. And his situation is set to become more worse as the England international is set to be axed from the squad vs Manchester City later tonight. (h/t Daily Mail)

Since the start of the last season, Abraham has scored 30 goals – more than any other Chelsea player. In fact, his 12 goals are the most scored by a Blues’ star in the current term. But, him being constantly overlooked by Tuchel has brought his long-term future at the club into question.

The report goes on to say that Chelsea could very well listen to offers for Abraham at the end of the season as he is clearly not favoured by the manager. Given his goalscoring prowess, there shouldn’t be any shortage of suitors for the 23-year-old if that is indeed the case.
