Transfer News: Barcelona moving ahead in the race for Chelsea target Sergio Aguero

According to transfer news from Mirror, Barcelona are ramping up efforts to sign Sergio Aguero who has also been linked to Chelsea. The Manchester City striker is set to call time on his stay at the club after 10 years and that has led to a whole host of clubs such as Barcelona, Chelsea and Juventus being keen on his services.

Chelsea have a very weird dilemma regarding their forward options. The club have three strikers and each comes with its own problem. New signing Timo Werner has failed to nail a starting spot due to his struggles in front of goal.

Tammy Abraham hasn’t featured much due to injury but it does not look like the club see him as their main option. Lastly, there is Olivier Giroud, who despite showing quality, is 34 years of age.

That has led to Thomas Tuchel tinkering with the side and stumbling upon playing Kai Havertz as a false-nine. While that has worked well for the player, Chelsea could really do with a prolific goal-getter.

The race for Aguero is heating up as he is set to be a free agent come the end of this season. Juve are already said to have made an offer for the striker.

However, it is understood that Barcelona are stepping up their efforts to sign him and the player is also keen on a move to the club because he wants to play with compatriot Lionel Messi.

This does come as a blow for the Blues, who are also after the striker. While age isn’t an issue, injuries have taken a toll on him and the last few seasons have seen his participation on sporadic levels.

Aguero is a Premier League legend by all means but Chelsea should not be too disappointed if they miss out on him.
