Serie A manager confirms intentions to sign exciting Chelsea prospect valued at £28m in the summer

Transfer News: AC Milan in the hunt for Chelsea man Fikayo Tomori in the summer

Speaking in a recent interview (h/t Express), AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli confirmed his intentions of signing Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori on a permanent deal in the summer.

The youngster departed the Blues to join the Serie A side on a 6-month long loan deal in the January transfer window. This was one of the last transfer decisions Frank Lampard made as Chelsea boss.

A buyout clause of £28m is included in that deal which will allow Milan to sign him permanently. And Pioli revealed how much he wants the Englishman to stay at Il Rossoneri beyond this season.

“We are so happy with Tomori, our plan with him is so clear. We want to confirm Fikayo and our plan is to keep him next season. Let’s see what happens with Chelsea.”

No Chelsea return for Tomori?

These comments come after Tomori’s incredible start to life in Italy. He just had 45 minutes of Premier League action this season before making the move overseas.

His talent has never been in doubt as the 23-year-old was the player of the season for Derby County when the club was managed by Lampard. And this news comes as a blow for Thomas Tuchel who wants defensive reinforcements.

The German gaffer wants to strengthen his backline and Tomori would have been a good solution considering he is already within their ranks. But that buyout clause makes the situation somewhat worrying for the Blues. (h/t Express)

Thiago Silva is not getting any younger and the veteran’s future at Chelsea is surely short-lived. And considering Tuchel uses a 3-man backline, he would surely want good depth in that area.
