Transfer News: Chelsea receive boost in their pursuit of Sergio Aguero

According to transfer news from Express, Chelsea could have a slight advantage in their pursuit of Sergio Aguero. The Manchester City striker is set to call time on his stay at the club after 10 years and that has led to a whole host of clubs such as Manchester United, PSG and Inter Milan being keen on his services.

Chelsea have a very weird dilemma regarding their forward options. The club has three strikers and each comes with its own problem. New signing Timo Werner has failed to nail a starting spot due to his struggles in front of goal.

Tammy Abraham hasn’t featured much due to injury but it does not look like the club see him as their main option.

Lastly, there is Olivier Giroud, who despite showing quality, is 34 years of age. That has led to Thomas Tuchel tinkering with the side and stumbling upon playing Kai Havertz as a false-nine. While that has worked well for the player, Chelsea could really do with a prolific goal-getter.

Aguero, however, wants to remain in the Premier League given how his stay at City is about to end. He feels that he has unfinished business in England and will likely prefer an offer from within the country instead of abroad.

There is the factor of him being on the Premier League all-time top-scorers chart. The player is fourth on the list with 181 goals and could try to go second with Wayne Rooney’s tally standing at 208.

While age isn’t an issue, injuries have taken a toll on him and the last few seasons have seen his participation on sporadic levels. Aguero is a Premier League legend by all means but Chelsea would be the wiser lot to invest in a striker who can serve them for the next 5-6 years.
