Report: Chelsea could sell this £29m-rated star after horror show against West Brom

Transfer News: Kurt Zouma faces potential Chelsea axe after West Brom defeat

A report by the Express states that Chelsea could decide to sell Kurt Zouma after his poor showing in the embarrassing 2-5 defeat to relegation-threatened West Brom.

Chelsea started well after a goal from Christian Pulisic put them up in the 27th minute. But a second yellow card for Thiago Silva just 2 minutes after that changed the whole complexion of the game.

A number of Chelsea players had a torrid game from thereon, with one of them being Zouma. The French defender was a regular under Frank Lampard.

However, game time has been hard to come for him under Thomas Tuchel as he continues to prefer Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, and Thiago Silva in defence.

The game against West Brom was just his 3rd league start under Tuchel. But he squandered his chance to impress. And it now looks like his future lies away from Stamford Bridge.

End of the road?

Owen Hargreaves, speaking to Premier League Productions (h/t Express), also voiced similar concerns about the former Saint-Etienne centre-back.

“I think for Chelsea and for Kurt Zouma, I’m not sure that it’s going to go well for him after what happened today [against West Brom]. I don’t think he’s going to play many games going forward after today’s performance.”

The report further mentions that Leicester City and Everton were linked with a move for the French international in the past.

Chelsea don’t really have a shortage of centre-backs right now. But Silva is not getting younger and the 36-year-old’s Chelsea future is up in the air with his contract expiring soon. In such a situation, having Zouma could make the difference.
