According to Daily Star, Chelsea have received a massive injury boost with Thiago Silva returning to training ahead of the Liverpool game. The former PSG man was taken off in the Tottenham game with a thigh issue and has been an absentee since. So far, he has missed six games for the Blues.
On Tuesday, he returned to full training and is somewhat in the frame for an appearance against Liverpool on Thursday. He was training alone prior to this but has stepped things up ahead of this vital clash. Silva joined the club in the summer and has become a vital member of the side in defence.
The Blues signed him on a one year deal but could choose to exercise the option of extending his stay by another year. In Silva’s absence, Andreas Christensen was drafted into central defence and the Danish international has done rather well.
However, Tuchel could soon be forced into a dilemma on Silva’s return from injury, given his form prior to the spell on the treatment table. Tuchel has mostly used the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger in his three-man defence while leaving out Kurt Zouma.
While it might be a headache now for Tuchel, it should be a welcome one. With so many players in good form and fighting for places, it will only keep everyone on their toes to put their best foot forward. It remains to be seen if Thiago Silva plays a part in the Liverpool game or kept back as a precaution.
