According to transfer news from Express, Chelsea could sign Gabriel Menino for a fee much lower than his release clause. Even Tottenham have been credited with an interest in the Brazilian starlet from Palmeiras.
Gabriel Menino is a 20-year-old Brazilian central midfielder who is a youth product of Palmeiras. He joined the youth setup in 2017 and over the years, progressed to the first-team.
Last year, he made his debut for the first-team against Ituano. So far, he has made 59 appearances for the Brazilian side, scoring 4 and assisting 7.
One striking fact about the Brazilian is his versatility. Even though the 20-year-old is a central midfielder, he can play at right-back, right midfield, right-wing, defensive midfield, as well as in central attacking midfield.
It has been reported that Menino has a release clause of €60m but Palmeiras could be open to an offer of €20m. The drastic reduction is believed to be due to the effects of the pandemic.
The interest in Menino is also due to the Brexit rules allowing English clubs to sign players from outside Europe.
Nonetheless, the 20-year-old Menino could be a handy player for the Blues given the versatile nature and adaptability that he would bring to the table.
Chelsea could actually use an out-and-out right wing-back or midfielder, and Menino could be a good choice in the future. However, interest from other clubs such as Spurs could make things competitive.
