According to Express, Chelsea ace Kai Havertz has told Thomas Tuchel that his best position is as a false nine. The German youngster thrived in that role in Chelsea’s win over Everton as he played a big part in both goals.
His first shot deflected off Ben Godfrey and was given as an own goal. He won the penalty for the second one, which Jorginho converted. This was perhaps one of the rare good outings for Havertz in a blue shirt as he pushed his side to a vital win.
Havertz struggled massively since his move to London as he failed to replicate his Leverkusen form. However, Tuchel was patient and slowly brought back the playmaker into the fold.
It seems that Tuchel did find a way to get the best out of him and that is in a false nine role. The midfielder also spoke about the same after the match.
“I played like a false nine, I had the freedom to go everywhere I wanted to go, and I think that’s good for me. I like to have freedom on the pitch. I think I was lucky to score a goal [disallowed after a handball] but I’m very happy with the performance, not only from me but the whole group.”
It’s definitely good news for Chelsea as their expensive signing is starting to produce some good form. Having struggled for so long, everyone at the club will be hoping that Havertz can continue in the same way.
