“More to come”: Ex-Blues’ ace backs this Chelsea star to explode into stardom at club amid transfer links

Pat Nevin backs Tammy Abraham to lead Chelsea frontline for years to come despite Haaland transfer links

Speaking to football.london, Pat Nevin stated that Tammy Abraham is not a finished product and is capable of leading the Chelsea attack in the near future.

Transfer links to Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund continue to rage on as Chelsea look for a striker. And amid this, Abraham’s future at Chelsea has become increasingly uncertain.

The Athletic [h/t football.london] mentioned that a clause was triggered in his current contract which will see his Stamford Bridge stay extended to 2024.

But despite that, the Englishman’s future at the club remains in doubt with the possibility of the Blues getting the Haaland transfer over the line. Nevertheless, Nevin does not think Abraham has even reached his physical prime yet.

“I honestly don’t think Tammy has completely filled out yet. I think there is more to come and there will be a point when suddenly it happens.”

Better things to come

The former Blues star mentioned that players mature at different rates and cited the example of another Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba, to put his point across.

“Tammy has to bring something that is physically world-class to the team because his technical quality is good enough. Look at someone like Didier Drogba, did he explode at 18 years old, 19 years old? No, he didn’t and that just shows that players mature at different speeds.”

Nevin even cited the example of 23-year-old Everton striker, Dominic Calvert-Lewin. He mentioned that the Toffees’ number 9 has suddenly exploded this season, and it is something that can happen with Abraham.
