According to Sport Bild (h/t Daily Mail), Chelsea have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of Erling Haaland. Apparently, the Blues ‘have no chance’ of signing the prolific striker in case he leaves Borussia Dortmund this summer.
It has been said that Haaland has six shortlisted clubs where he prefers to move and Chelsea are not among them. The six clubs are Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus.
The Norwegian hitman has taken Europe by storm with his goal-scoring exploits over the past couple of years – first at RB Salzburg, then at Dortmund. In 43 outings for the German club, he has scored 43 goals.
The report clearly excludes Chelsea who have actively monitored the Norwegian sensation. Haaland wants to join ‘an absolute top club’ and doesn’t seem to put Chelsea in the same bracket. It was even said that Chelsea have been given approval by Roman Abramovich to go ahead and bid for Erling Haaland (h/t Metro).
Haaland’s agent recently gave hints about a potential transfer. He said that only 10 clubs in Europe could afford the player and 4 of them were in England. While Chelsea are said to be among those 4, Haaland is now said to be ruling them out.
The player is said to admire Real Madrid while there are family ties with Man City due to his father playing for them. It really comes as a counterpunch to Chelsea who wanted to sign the player to secure the centre-forward position for the long term.
