According to news from the club’s official website, Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen has been nominated for the PL Player of the Month. This is the first time Christensen has been nominated for the award and it has been a while since a Chelsea player won it.
Chelsea are on a 14-game unbeaten streak under Thomas Tuchel, winning 10 of those fixtures. Having picked up wins against the likes of Liverpool and Everton, Chelsea are back in the top four and are well within a shout of finishing fourth or higher.
Christensen, who hadn’t played much under Tuchel’s predecessor, Frank Lampard, has made the most of the chances he got following an injury to Thiago Silva.
Slotting in at the heart of Chelsea’s three-man defence, the Dane has ensured that the Blues have not conceded a single goal in close to nine hours now, keeping out the likes of Liverpool, Everton, Manchester United and Atletico Madrid along the way.
Currently, the Danish defender is away on international duty for his nation’s WC Qualifiers. With Thiago Silva close to a return, it will be interesting to see what Tuchel does. Christensen has hardly put a foot wrong and replacing him from the line-up would be unfair.
Along with Christensen, the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Luke Shaw, Kelechi Iheanacho, Harry Kane, Jesse Lingard, Illan Meslier and Leandro Trossard have also been nominated. Even Thomas Tuchel has been nominated for the manager of the month.
