Transfer News: Chelsea still an option for David Alaba

According to transfer news from Daily Mail, Chelsea are still in the race to sign David Alaba as his agent has kept options open. It was previously reported that Alaba would only be interested in a move to either Real Madrid or Barcelona.

David Alaba confirmed earlier this year that he would be leaving Bayern Munich at the end of this season upon the expiry of his contract. While there were no hints of which would be his next club, the likes of Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Liverpool were interested in him.

Chelsea view Alaba as a replacement for the ageing Thiago Silva, who is already 36. It had been reported that Thomas Tuchel had failed to convince Alaba to join the club and that the Austrian had also rejected the chance to sign for PSG.

However, his agent Pini Zahavi cleared the air regarding any sort of speculation. He claimed that nothing has been decided as yet.

‘David has to choose who wins the race. But we are still talking with other clubs. There is no deadline.’

Alaba has impressed during his long stay at Bayern but will leave the club as a free agent in the summer. It still remains unclear as to where he will play next season. However, with Zahavi’s recent comments, Chelsea would feel that they are still in the running for Alaba.
