Blow for Chelsea as another star picks up injury on international duty

Chelsea News: Callum Hudson-Odoi injured; misses England U-21’s clash vs Portugal

According to news from Football.london, Chelsea ace Callum Hudson-Odoi has picked up an injury while away on international duty with the England Under-21 side.

Hudson-Odoi was part of the young Three Lions’ squad for the U-21 European Championships. However, the winger picked up a shoulder injury in training yesterday which has meant he has missed England’s crucial game against the Portugal U-21 outfit.

Former Tottenham academy ace Noni Madueke has taken his place for the game in Aidy Boothroyd’s side.

Hudson-Odoi’s injury comes after fellow Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante was reported to have picked up a problem during France’s 1-1 draw against Ukraine in midweek. Following that, the Frenchman has returned to London to recuperate.

However, the good news for Chelsea fans is that the injury of Hudson-Odoi isn’t very serious and the winger is expected to be available for England’s last group game against Croatia on Wednesday.

Chelsea face off against West Bromwich Albion in their first game post the international break on Saturday afternoon. It remains to be seen whether Kante and Hudson-Odoi will be available for selection for the encounter.

Apart from the duo, Thomas Tuchel will also be waiting on the quartet of Edouard Mendy, Thiago Silva, Tammy Abraham and Jorginho, all of whom went into the international break with injuries.

As far as Hudson-Odoi is concerned, the Englishman has had a hit-and-miss season so far. While there have been positives under Tuchel when he has played a wing-back, with Reece James hitting top form, the winger has his task cut out to work his way back into the lineup.
