Pundit tips Chelsea star to snub a summer switch to rival Premier League club

Chelsea ace Tammy Abraham tipped to turn down Aston Villa move

Speaking to Football Insider (h/t Birmingham Live), former Premier League footballer turned pundit, Danny Mills has claimed that Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham is unlikely to join Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.

Abraham, a product of the Chelsea youth academy, enjoyed a fruitful spell away at Villa on loan during the 2018/19 campaign. The England striker plundered 26 goals, helping the Villans earn promotion to the Premier League.

Following that season, Abraham became a first-team regular at Chelsea, enjoying a breakthrough season last time out under Frank Lampard.

However, the Englishman has seen his game-time reduce gradually with Olivier Giroud and summer signing Timo Werner being preferred ahead of him this season, both by Lampard and his successor Thomas Tuchel.

This has sparked suggestions over his future, with Aston Villa seemingly keen on securing his services in the summer. Danny Mills, though, is of the opinion that Abraham may not be willing to move to the Villa Park.

This is because he would have to battle with Ollie Watkins for the starting berth. The ex-Brentford man has had a solid debut Premier League season and scored on his England debut last week. In addition, Villa will also have Wesley Moraes back from injury soon.

So, Mills is of the opinion that Abraham might end up playing second-fiddle even if he leaves Chelsea for Villa.

“I don’t think Abraham would want to go and play second fiddle, if I’m honest. I don’t think he would want to be at a club where he’s not going to be the main striker. Watkins is now in the England squad and scored on his debut which is absolutely huge and takes him to another level.

“I think Abraham will have to just wait and see what options there are if he is looking at a potential move away.”
