Transfer News: Chelsea star Olivier Giroud on Juventus’ shortlist

According to Italian news publication Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Football Italia), Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has emerged as a summer transfer target for Italian champions Juventus.

The 34-year-old has been with Chelsea since January 2018, having joined from fellow London club Arsenal. While he may not always have been a starter at the Bridge, Giroud has been a valuable contributor to the club’s FA Cup triumph and Europa League trophy win during his spell here.

Over the course of the current season, there have been times when he has been preferred ahead of both Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner by ex-boss Frank Lampard as well as current manager Thomas Tuchel.

In all, the 34-year-old has managed 11 goals from 24 appearances in all competitions in the 2020/21 campaign. However, Giroud is in the final few months of his contract with Chelsea and will be a free agent come the end of the season.

Now, Juventus have identified Giroud as a potential transfer target ahead of the summer transfer window. The reigning Italian champions are on the lookout for a new centre-forward and have prepared a star-studded shortlist of targets.

The likes of Sergio Aguero of Manchester City, their former striker Moise Kean, Wolves’ star Raul Jimenez are all on the list, along with Chelsea’s veteran forward Giroud.

Giroud, despite his age, has shown that he can add a lot of value to the team with his experience, ability to sniff goals and his top-notch link-up play in the final third.

Handing him another one-year extension could serve Chelsea well. But with the likes of Juventus wanting to sign him, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Frenchman.
