Chelsea could part ways with attacking star to facilitate new arrivals for Tuchel

Transfer News: Chelsea could look to let go of Hakim Ziyech

According to Ian McGarry (h/t Express), transfer news has emerged that Chelsea could let go of Hakim Ziyech next season. It has been said that Thomas Tuchel is keen on trimming his squad to facilitate new arrivals and among the three new recruits of Havertz, Werner and Ziyech, the latter could be allowed to leave.

The Moroccan joined the club amid fanfare this season, with a deal being agreed last season itself. He came to England in scintillating form for Ajax over the last few seasons. However, he has failed to carry over that form into the current season and has made just 15 league appearances this season.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and transfer head Marina Granovskaia are in agreement with Thomas Tuchel over the stance on Ziyech. The board trusts what Tuchel is doing given the results Chelsea have had since his appointment.

McGarry spoke about the fact that Tuchel feels Chelsea look too heavy at the top and wants to sell some players in that area.

“It is our information that a very well-known agent has been asked to market certain players, the most prominent being Hakim Ziyech who of course has not been at the club very long but Thomas Tuchel believes that the squad is top heavy in attacking midfielders and that Ziyech is probably the most expendable should they be able to recoup some of the investment in him.”

While it is understandable that Chelsea want to free up some funds and space with a sale, giving up on Ziyech after just one season sounds premature. The Moroccan is a quality player capable of unlocking defences and should be allowed more time to show his worth.
