Chelsea star refuses to be a part of swap deal to bring Haaland to Stamford Bridge

Chelsea striker Timo Werner is not in favour of a summer transfer swap to Borussia Dortmund for Erling Haaland

German outlet Bild (h/t The Sun) claim that Chelsea striker Timo Werner is set to refuse a summer transfer swap to Borussia Dortmund in exchange for striker Erling Haaland.

Earlier this week, the German striker was linked with a move to Signal Iduna Park as a makeweight in the deal for the Norwegian. But that is now believed to be false.

The Blues are in the queue to sign the Norwegian striker but are not alone in their pursuit. Manchester United and Manchester City have also been linked with a move for the former RB Salzburg man.

As for Werner, he has been a shadow of his former self since his £45million move to Stamford Bridge. He has scored just 5 league goals since his move from RB Leipzig last summer.

No swap

And more worryingly, the 25-year-old has just one goal in his last 20 Premier League games for Thomas Tuchel’s side. But it seems like he wants to continue his stay in London. (h/t Transfermarkt)

That goal drought is not affecting Chelsea though as the Blues are unbeaten since the former PSG boss took charge in January and are gunning for a top-4 finish at the end of the season, something that looked improbable under former manager, Frank Lampard.

But if they want to challenge for the title next season, a goal-scoring No.9 would be something that would help them massively. Currently, Jorginho and Tammy Abraham are our top scorers in the league with just 6 goals.

The club already has three forwards on their cards. Werner shares game time with Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud, while Kai Havertz has also featured as a false-9 this season.

So to get a deal done for 20-year-old Haaland could mean years of mental peace for the club in terms of a goal-scoring forward. But if the report is to be believed, they won’t be able to use Werner as a makeweight.
