Transfer News: Chelsea to battle Barcelona for 257-goal PL legend

Chelsea to compete with Barcelona and PSG for Sergio Aguero

A report by Daily Mail highlights that Sergio Aguero ‘hopes’ to remain in the Premier League even if he leaves Manchester City in the summer, with Chelsea interested in his signature.

However, Barcelona have made contact with the striker over a free transfer in the upcoming window. Aguero’s current City contract expires in June and there have been no talks to renew it.

But the Catalan club would know that signing the Argentine would not be easy. Thomas Tuchel’s current club, Chelsea, and former club, PSG, are both reportedly keeping track of the player.

The Blues have admired the 32-year-old forward for a long time. In fact, they were interested in bringing him to Stamford Bridge back in the summer of 2011 when he joined City from Atletico Madrid as a 23-year-old.

Aguero to the Bridge?

This season has not been good for the former Independiente hitman. He has made just 5 starts in all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side due to injuries and the Spanish manager has found solutions in his absence.

But it shouldn’t disregard the quality that he would bring to any team that he joins. Aguero is a potent goal-scorer who has scored 257 goals for Manchester in 384 appearances; at a fearsome rate of 2 goals every 3 matches.

He also managed 23 goals in all competitions last season for City despite not playing a majority of their games. This is five more than what Chelsea’s top scorer Tammy Abraham managed that season. (h/t Transfermarkt)
