Cesar Azpilicueta speaks about Thomas Tuchel’s rotation policy
Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta spoke about how Thomas Tuchel has gone about his rotation policy (h/t Football.london). The new Blues manager shook things upon his arrival to the club and rejigged everything from formation, players, style of play and so.
He has done all those while getting results too. In 11 games under him, Chelsea have won 8 and drawn 3, thereby staying unbeaten. Players that were frozen out by Lampard such as Marcos Alonso were brought back into the fold. Others who were not performing up to the standards have also started performing.
Azpilicueta, who has been one of the regulars under Tuchel in a three-man defence, spoke about how Tuchel goes through with his rotations.
“That’s a collective mindset. When you play for Chelsea, one of the top clubs in the world, you have to fight for your place. Nothing comes easy. When you step on the pitch you have to be at your best. In every training session, even when you don’t play, everybody trains very hard, and that’s why when the changes come everybody is ready.
“We have the same idea. Sometimes we adapt to different systems, sometimes in the same system different players which means there is a different style of play, but the most important thing is we are all thinking in the same way.”
The Spaniard became a fringe player under Frank Lampard as Reece James was preferred at full-back. But he was soon restored to the XI by Tuchel. He has played every minute of the league games under Tuchel and is one of the regular faces despite the chopping and changing around him.
