Jamie Redknapp thinks Mason Mount can be the next Chelsea captain
According to Sky Sports (h/t Metro), Jamie Redknapp thinks that Mason Mount has the potential to be the next captain of Chelsea. Redknapp junior believes that once Cesar Azpilicueta steps down as captain Mount will be a very solid candidate to take over.
Chelsea overcame defending champions Liverpool at Anfield by a goal to nil. The three points were deserved as Chelsea kept Liverpool at bay pretty easily for most of the match. While Chelsea did create more chances, they scored just that one goal in the first half.
Mount pounced on a lofted through ball from N’Golo Kante and ran at the defence. He cut in from the left past Fabinho to launch one right into the bottom right corner past Alisson. Following that Mount did show everyone some intriguing celebrations.
Mason Mount has kept up his impressive form through the season even after Frank Lampard’s sacking. It was yet another display of real quality from the academy graduate who has quickly become one of the Blues’ most reliable players. That has led Jamie Redknapp to point him out as a viable candidate for the captaincy.
“I think the best way to state what he is right now is the ultimate modern-day player. He can play in a two in midfield. He can play the No. 10. He can play wide left, wide right. He has that much quality, you could play him as a false 9 if you had to. He starts the press. His touch, he’s got finesse. I think he’s got everything to be the next Chelsea captain going forward.”

Redknapp added that Chelsea haven’t produced such a player in a long time, the last one being John Terry. Obviously, they wouldn’t think of selling him but the former Liverpool man just contemplated how valuable Mount could be in the current market.
