Tuchel makes an intriguing statement on Chelsea’s PL title chances for next season

Thomas Tuchel says Chelsea can win the Premier League next season

According to Daily Mail, Thomas Tuchel believes that Chelsea can win the Premier League next season. Manchester City hold a 14-point cushion over second-placed Manchester United this season, while Chelsea are in fifth with a 21-point distance.

The Blues lifted the coveted trophy back in 2017 under Antonio Conte in rip-roaring fashion. Since then, they have come up short to City (twice) and Liverpool by 30, 26 and 33 points in the following three seasons, respectively.

On being asked about the numbers mentioned above, Tuchel said that those numbers may say that a title challenge is unrealistic but they need to try and not limit themselves.

Speaking ahead of an important game against fellow top-four hopefuls Liverpool, Tuchel had an optimistic view that Chelsea can challenge City for the title next season.

“Sometimes, it’s good to look at the reality and have the ambition to close [the gap] as fast as possible. The point is, will we close the gap to Man City this season? No we will not, this is impossible.

“But from next season, all of us start with zero points and City were in trouble this season and nobody took advantage of it. It’s proven in sports that you can improve fast and grow with a certain momentum if you catch that momentum.”

Tuchel spoke about how a top-four challenge seemed impossible but now they are right back in the mix, trailing fourth-placed West Ham by just one point. He remains adamant that his side will challenge for trophies on all fronts next season.

The former PSG manager has enjoyed an unbeaten start so far at Chelsea, winning 6 of the 9 games he has overseen. They are also in the driver’s seat in their Champions League encounter with Atletico Madrid while being in the FA Cup quarter-finals. Tuchel could well end up with a trophy as well as top-four qualification if things keep going in the same fashion.
