Speaking via the club’s official Twitter handle, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel provided injury updates on two of his players ahead of the Southampton game. He spoke about the status of Tammy Abraham and Thiago Silva leading into the weekend game against the Saints.
Firstly he spoke about Tammy Abraham, who suffered an ankle injury after a rather dangerous-looking challenge from Jamaal Lascelles in the Newcastle game. He said that the lanky striker was extremely lucky to have walked away without any serious injury from that tackle.
The medical team was involved with Abraham to ensure his fitness. Abraham was back on the training pitch and has been given the green light by Tuchel to appear in the squad for the Southampton game.
Next was an update on Thiago Silva. When asked about his current status and return timeline, the German manager went on to say that Silva did take part in training but has a bit of a ‘sensation’ which was causing him discomfort.
Due to that, the Brazilian defender has decided to ‘take a little step back’ and has been ruled out for the game. Silva has been out of action since the Tottenham game in early February.
Chelsea will be hoping to add another win against Southampton after some good results under Thomas Tuchel. The Blues are on a six-game unbeaten run under the German and will be hoping to extend that run later today against the Saints at St. Mary’s.
