According to Daily Star, former Arsenal player Paul Merson has urged Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel to sign Erling Haaland. Merson was of the opinion that Chelsea are the side that needs Haaland’s qualities the most.
The 20-year-old Norwegian has lit up the Bundesliga since his arrival with his goal-scoring exploits and has been on the radar of several clubs across Europe.
“Of all the teams who are in for Erling Haaland, Chelsea are the ones who need him most. They have always been successful with someone who has a presence up front and Haaland has that. He’s going to score bundles wherever he goes.”
Haaland’s young age would also mean that he will command a good resale value should Chelsea buy him in the summer and decide to sell him later down the line. Merson felt that Haaland might not be a good fit for Manchester City as he might not get that many games for Guardiola’s side.
Manchester United have also been tipped as one of Haaland’s destinations to replace Edinson Cavani. But Merson thinks that United could go for Harry Kane instead, leaving Chelsea in the clear to sign Haaland. (h/t Daily Star)
Chelsea have been linked to Haaland for a while now, especially after the arrival of new manager Thomas Tuchel.
The Blues are looking to bounce back in the league after an underwhelming run that saw the dismissal of Frank Lampard. Tuchel has made an encouraging start to his stint as manager.
