“We’ve improved”: Chelsea star gives his verdict on early days of Tuchel’s Stamford Bridge reign

Mateo Kovacic opens up on the difference between Lampard and Tuchel

According to the Mirror, Croatian international Mateo Kovacic has revealed the differences at Chelsea between Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel.

The Blues legend enjoyed a topsy turvy season which saw the club not only experience the highs of topping of the table but also fall away in the title race.

Chelsea replaced Lampard with Tuchel and the German has brought about a immediate change in fortunes. The Blues have won two of their last three games and are yet to lose under the new boss.

Mateo Kovacic opens up on how life has changed under Tuchel at Chelsea

Chelsea’s win over Tottenham Hotspur earlier this week was one of our best performances of late. We completely dominated Jose Mourinho’s side and were comfortably the better team on the night.

“This is a thing we need to improve, to finish games. I think this is one thing we will work a lot on.”

The 26-year-old revealed how Tuchel is keen for the side to move the ball forwards quickly. This will help the team finish off the opposition, leaving the result in our favour.

“He [Tuchel] explained to us what he wants. It’s exactly that – to play fast forward, to create chances, to be in the opposition’s half.”

While the Blues dominated possession against Wolves and Burnley, they found it tough going in their efforts to break down the opposition.

Kovacic admitted that while the results have been good, there is still much to be improved upon. Tuchel is known for his tactical proficiency and it would appear he is slowly but surely imparting his lessons to the squad.

“I think we’ve improved a lot in the last three games but I think we can be even better & be even more confident.”

Chelsea face bottom-placed Sheffield United on Sunday night. The Blades, despite their position, have played well at times and the Blues should take it one game at a time- just as Kovacic suggests they should.
