Ex-PL manager believes this Chelsea star everything needed to become a top player

Mason Mount backed to become a top player for Chelsea by Graeme Souness

Speaking to The Times (h/t Metro), former Liverpool manager turned pundit, Graeme Souness is of the belief that Mason Mount has everything needed to become a top player for Chelsea.

A product of the Chelsea youth academy, Mount broke into the first-team last season after a successful loan spell away at Derby County. Since then, the attacking midfielder has grown from strength to strength becoming an undroppable member of the team.

At the same time, Mount has also broken into the England national team and established himself as a regular for the Three Lions as well.

Following the sacking of Frank Lampard last month, there were concerns if Mount would be able to replicate his form under new boss Thomas Tuchel. However, he has taken no time to adapt to the new manager’s principles and has been one of our best players of late.

Indeed, Mount was the standout player on Saturday even as Chelsea meandered to a 1-1 draw against Southampton. And, Souness has claimed that the Englishman has a bright future in the game.

“Mason Mount constantly gets picked in that Chelsea team and already it appears that Thomas Tuchel, their new manager, likes him as well, despite the experienced squad they have.

“Mount sees a picture, has great technique and athleticism and also looks to have a fabulous attitude – all the things you need to be a top player.”

Mount scored the all-important penalty against Southampton at the weekend to salvage a point for Chelsea. If he keeps developing at the rate he has been over the past year, then the sky is the limit for the Blues’ academy product.
