Rival boss expresses support for Lampard following Chelsea sacking

Marcelo Bielsa backs Frank Lampard following Chelsea sacking

According to the Daily Mail, Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has claimed that Chelsea sacking Frank Lampard could set a disturbing trend in English football.

The Blues legend was dismissed last Tuesday after just over a season in charge. He has since been replaced by German coach Thomas Tuchel.

Bielsa, who has been at Leeds for three years, believes the do or die approach to management in England is detrimental to the sport in the country.

The Argentine maverick believes Lampard put together an excellent group of players at Chelsea. A blend of youth and experience, Chelsea on paper was an excellent team..

“Lampard built one of the best groups in English football — the whole world — and evidently that group needed development and time.”

While the players still could go on to achieve success, Bielsa regrets tha fact that Lampard will not be there to see it from the Chelsea hotseat.

“I regret that a colleague who has designed a very interesting project wasn’t able to finish it.”

Unbecoming of the English game!

The Leeds boss believes English football is against its ethos by not giving managers enough time to put together a project.

“English football, which had been a leader in the world in allowing managers time to develop their projects, has stopped doing so.”

Unfortunately, patience is not a commodity that is easily available today. More so at Chelsea. Jose Mourinho remains the only manager who has survived for more than two years since Roman Abramovich took over in 2003.

Tuchel cannot afford to give the job anything but his best

Bielsa and Lampard shared an intense rivalry from their time in the Championship. However, the fact that the Argentine stood up for the former Blues boss reveals the sportsmanship that existed between them.

Tuchel has been handed an 18-month contract by the club. It can be argued that the German has been granted more of an audition rather than the reins of the project at Stamford Bridge.

Unless he gets the club going fast, he too could prove to be yet another managerial casualty.
