According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Chelsea are on the verge of losing out on Bayern Munich ace David Alaba.
The 28-year-old is out of contract in the summer and is available for free. A world-class player, this has seen a number of clubs vying for his signature. It would appear that Alaba has already made up his mind as to his next destination.
According to Romano, the Austrian international has already reached a verbal agreement with Spanish giants Real Marid regarding a summer switch.
The decision was made early last month and a pre-contract until 2025 is close to being put on the table. It is, however, yet to be signed, giving us some hope of making a late push.
Both Chelsea and Liverpool are still trying to turn the player’s head. However, he looks to have made up his mind to join Real Madrid.
One of the best Bosman transfers to come onto the market in recent years, Alaba would have been an excellent signing for the Blues. He would have slotted in well at the back and is in the prime of his career.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is keen to bring in a new centre-back next summer. With Dayot Upamecano set to join Bayern Munich and David Alaba closing in on the Bernabeu, the Blues boss’ preferred options are fast disappearing. (h/t Daily Mail)
Chelsea have also been linked with Bundesliga stars Ibrahima Konate and Niklas Sule in recent weeks. Who the club eventually brings in remains to be seen.
