“Does everything right”: Ex-PL ace hails this Chelsea star after Atletico Madrid clash

Mason Mount hailed by former Chelsea star Joe Cole

Speaking to BT Sport (h/t Daily Mail), former Chelsea player Joe Cole was all praises for Mason Mount after Chelsea’s win over Atletico Madrid. Despite being booked in the opening minutes of the game, Mount went on to deliver an industrious shift before being withdrawn at 74 mins.

While Olivier Giroud may have been the hero with his splendidly taken overhead kick goal but Cole singled out Mount’s performance.

“He’s still a young lad, you can’t rely on him all the time and managed for the big games but he’s so important for the club at the moment. Even when there was nothing in the game he was the one looking to probe.

“The reason why footballers love him so much is because he does everything right, he’s in the right positions defensively and attacking. He’s also got that little bit of magic, and he was a threat. He looks like a leader and he was brilliant tonight again.”

Mount broke into the first team under Frank Lampard last season and even after the latter’s sacking this season, the English youngster has kept his place under Thomas Tuchel.

“He needs to be looked after because he’s such an important part of the team. He’s still a young lad, you can’t rely on him all the time and he needs to be managed and dropped in and out for the big games but he’s so important for the club at the moment.”

Nonetheless, Mount will be missing the second leg of this fixture after collecting his third yellow card of this Champions League campaign. UEFA’s rules state the same and Thomas Tuchel will have to make do without one of his prized players.
