Timo Werner highlights one major aspect where Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel differs from Frank Lampard
Chelsea striker Timo Werner revealed in an interview with Sky Sports (h/t football.london) that Thomas Tuchel is more suited to him than Frank Lampard because of the linguistic commonality he shares with the German manager.
Lampard was sacked by Roman Abramovich after a dreadful run that saw the Blues lose 5 out of his last 8 league games. Tuchel, who was let go of by PSG earlier in the season, took over the managerial seat at Stamford Bridge.
It is safe to say the change has worked. Chelsea are yet to lose under their new manager and are well in contention to finish within the top 4 at the end of the season.
Timo Werner, who was seriously misfiring by the end of Lampard’s reign, has also improved despite netting just once under Tuchel. And the German striker gave an insight into why that might be the case.
“I understood the old manager very well, it was not because of the language. But I think when you can talk German to someone, you can explain some things easier, and maybe he [Tuchel] would explain things easier than the old manager.”
The German connection
Werner thinks he has a new start to his Chelsea life under Tuchel, as is the case for any player under a new manager. The former RB Leipzig added that he does not rue the past and is only concentrated on the future.
“I don’t care about the missed chances or the past. I want to look to the future to get the team back to the top and to score goals.”
The 24-year-old is by no means a finished product. He has proven himself in the Bundesliga and his 10 goals and 9 assists in all competitions this season is not a bad tally.

He also knows he has the trust of Tuchel. The gaffer has started him in 5 consecutive games after resting him in his first game in charge, which came against Wolverhampton Wanderers. (h/t transfermarkt)
