Thomas Tuchel speaks out on Olivier Giroud and Edinson Cavani

According to Daily Mail, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel had some words of praise of veteran strikers Olivier Giroud and Edinson Cavani. The German manager could be set to go up against his former charge as Chelsea face Manchester United this weekend.

Tuchel was of the opinion that strikers like Giroud have a lot of fitness and discipline, and that is why they are able to sustain such form even in the latter part of their careers. Giroud recently showed that he still has it, with a spectacular overhead goal against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

Speaking ahead of the game, Tuchel went on to praise both the strikers.

‘Look at them and when they switch shirts, they are totally fit. Oli is 100 per cent fit, zero body fat, same as Edi. He is a player like Oli who, as a number nine, is always concerned about the team, suffers for the team, always ready to run open spaces and defend for the whole team.

Then in the box they are both excellent finishers, they have the composure. They are top quality strikers, top quality number nines and for me their fitness and self-discipline are key to their success.’

Giroud has kept his scoring boots on this season with important goals. With Werner struggling and Abraham not starting regularly, Giroud has snapped up the opportunity in recent weeks to become the preferred No.9 of the side.

However, Tuchel refused to divulge if Giroud would start against Manchester United. He just spoke about how hard Giroud works in training.

With such good form behind him and Manchester United the opponents, Tuchel could just be inclined to throw on Giroud.
