Chelsea and Roman Abramovich secure profits
According to bettingodds.com (h/t Football.london), Chelsea have earned more profits from player sales than any other club in the last 10 years. In total, they have received a staggering £489.68million from selling their players.
Chelsea were the most active club in the last summer transfer window, at a time when clubs refused to spend the big bucks due to the effects of the pandemic. The Blues went all guns blazing as they went ahead and signed the likes of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell and Hakim Ziyech.
Despite being one of the highest spenders in recent times, Chelsea haven’t developed a very high net spend when compared to some of the other high-profile clubs. That has been due to the club receiving high transfer fees for selling their players.
A total of 37 players have been let go during that time, significant names include Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid and Diego Costa to Atletico Madrid. They have actually made a £4.47million profit after spending £485.22million and receiving £489.68million.

Hazard’s sale was obviously a significant chunk of the money they received. There have also been other notable as well as expensive sales such as David Luiz to PSG, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic to Manchester United, etc.
With another summer transfer window coming up, it remains to be seen if the club go on a spending spree again.
