Team News: Chelsea handed twin boost ahead of Southampton clash

Team News: Kai Havertz and Thiago Silva back in Chelsea training ahead of Southampton clash

According to The Metro, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has been handed a double injury boost ahead of the weekend’s trip to Southampton.

Both Kai Havertz and Thiago Silva have been pictured in training ahead of the clash against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side. Their return should give Tuchel more options going into what is a tricky matchup.

Havertz was Chelsea’s marquee signing of the summer. But he has failed to meet the necessary expectations and has largely struggled. Now back fit, he can hopefully turn the tide under the tutelage of Tuchel.

Silva, on the other hand, was a Bosman signing who has gone on to greatly impact the Blues starting XI. Despite his age, the Brazilian has added much need ability and leadership to what was a rocky Chelsea defence.

He was absent for the club’s last three games and will relish the return to action. The game could also see Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech gain some game time.

They were on the bench at the weekend but were not afforded any minutes against Newcastle United.

One player who is definitely ruled out of the trip to St Marys’ is Tammy Abraham. The striker was taken off injured against the Magpies and is set to miss the match on Saturday.

Tuchel is hopeful that his top scorer this season will return to action sooner than later.
