Boost for Chelsea as Timo Werner and Andreas Christensen declared fit to face Newcastle
According to Football.london, Chelsea will welcome back Timo Werner and Andreas Christensen for their Premier League clash against Newcastle United.
The German striker was taken off against Sheffield United with a dead leg and missed the midweek fixture against Barnsley in the FA Cup. Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that the German ace will be fit to face the Magpies.
“It should be absolutely okay for Timo Werner to come back.”
Another player who is set for a return is Christensen. The Dane went off against Barnsley in what Tuchel described as a ‘headache’. Thankfully, he is in contention to return to action later tonight.
His return will come as a relief given our options in defence. With Thiago Silva ruled out, the Blues only have Kurt Zouma, Antonio Rudiger, and now Christensen available at centre-back.
Summer signing Kai Havertz is also a doubt for the game. The midfielder has been out of action since injuring himself in training ahead of the clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
While Havertz taking part has not been ruled out, it appears to be touch and go as far as tonight is concerned.
Despite the setbacks, the Blues have enough strength in depth to see off Steve Bruce’s side. A win will see the Blues overtake Liverpool to the fourth spot.
Tuchel is still unbeaten as Chelsea boss and hopefully will keep the run going for some more time.
