Chelsea handed Erling Haaland boost with Dortmund willing to sell

According to Sport Witness (h/t Football.London), Chelsea have received a massive boost in their pursuit of Erling Haaland after it was revealed that Borussia Dortmund could we willing to cash in on the player this summer.

Haaland, who is widely regarded as one of the best young attackers on the planet, has been identified as a top transfer priority by Thomas Tuchel. Now, as per the report, Dortmund have drawn up a list of players who could be sold in order to balance the books if they fail to secure Champions League qualification. 

The German club have already lost a massive £22million TV revenue due to the ongoing pandemic and failing to secure a top-four finish could see them lose a further £65million at the end of the season. That would necessitate an immediate fire sale of some of the club’s prized assets to balance the books.

Besides Haaland, teenage midfielder Jude Bellingham and star winger Jadon Sancho also feature on that list. Bellingham was linked with a move to Chelsea towards the end of last year. 

Haaland, though, is understood to be more of a priority under Tuchel, who has indicated at the recruitment of a new centre-forward in the summer.

Olivier Giroud’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season. His exit would leave Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham as the two specialist options in front of goal.

The 20-year-old Haaland has taken his game to a new level at Dortmund. Haaland scored 16 goals in 18 appearances for Dortmund last season. He has already scored 22 goals in 22 appearances across all competitions this term.

The Norwegian starlet’s overall tally of 38 goals and 9 assists (h/t Transfermarkt) makes for some eye-watering readings on paper.
